Visit at the Spanish Demo site

On February 20th, 2025, the DeCO2 project took another significant step forward with a visit from 3L, the coordinator of the project’s demo sites, to the Spanish Demo. The visit, which encompassed both the Castellón and Valencia sites, placed a special focus on the ongoing renovation of the Castellón Library. This project is a key initiative in the heart of the city, transforming the space into a dynamic social and cultural center with the full support of the Castellón City Council.

Currently, the renovation works are in the demolition phase, expected to continue until April 2025. A critical aspect of this stage is the proper separation of construction and demolition waste (CDW) to ensure its subsequent valorization. To achieve this, the project partners are closely accompanying the construction company, ABALA, to guarantee best practices in waste management.

During the visit, CoCircular presented their approach to waste separation, emphasizing the advantages of digitalization. Their "360º Advisor" software plays a crucial role in monitoring waste management on-site, ensuring efficient handling and separation of materials. Additionally, it has great potential for aggregating data from different construction sites, facilitating better decision-making and promoting sustainable practices across projects. This aligns with the overarching goals of the DeCO2 project: to facilitate the recirculation of construction materials and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

In the afternoon, IVE guided 3L through the Design & Build 2025 workshop organised by “Cátedra Maderamen” at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). Here, students are actively involved in the design and construction of a demo, fostering hands-on learning and innovation. The visit concluded with an exploration of Building 2, a potential site for implementing innovations developed within the DeCO2 framework.
