On 14 May 2026, the Valencia Institute of Building (IVE) organised a technical conference and product exhibition at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), bringing together companies and professionals from across the construction sector to discuss the main challenges and opportunities arising from Spain’s evolving regulatory framework for buildings. The event also formed part of the Energy Days programme within the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2026), an initiative promoted by the European Commission to foster energy efficiency and support the transition towards a decarbonised economy.

The event gathered the companies UNEX, URSA, ANHYDRITEC, CERÁMICA A MANO ALZADA, TECHNAL, Saint-Gobain, Ecophon, MOLECOR, Soprema, CERANOR, ROCA, SIBER, ARQUIMA, Grupo PUMA, EXLABESA, FINSA and SUBERLEV, which showcased a wide range of materials, systems and construction solutions aimed at improving sustainability, indoor environmental quality and building efficiency.

The conference provided a highly enriching environment for technical exchange and collaboration, focusing particularly on the changes introduced by the new regulatory context for the Spanish building sector. Among the key topics discussed were the upcoming modifications to the Health and Hygiene Basic Document DB-HSA of the Spanish Building Technical Code (CTE), as well as the future National Building Renovation Plan (PNRE).

These regulatory developments will represent a significant transformation process for the sector, introducing new requirements related to indoor environmental quality, sustainability, energy efficiency and occupant health. In this context, participants highlighted the importance of supporting professionals, developers, manufacturers and other stakeholders with tools, solutions, products and transparent, verified information that enable rigorous decision-making and deliver the best outcomes in responsible construction.

The event also highlighted the importance of the proper use of materials and construction solutions supported by reliable and verified environmental information, many of which are the result of research and knowledge-transfer activities carried out through European projects such as DeCO2. Initiatives of this kind play a key role in accelerating the decarbonisation of the building stock and facilitating the transition towards healthier, more efficient and resilient buildings.

The meeting once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration between universities, industry and technical stakeholders in successfully addressing the challenges involved in transforming the built environment into a more sustainable, efficient and people-centred sector.
